I had an outstanding dining experience at Selden restaurant The food was excellent, showcasing great attention to detail and creativity. The dishes featured an excellent use of ingredients and expertly paired seasonal vegetables, creating a delightful culinary journey. Highly recommended! We had tried six dishes and everyone of them Is delightful, even with a simple Ingredient, they made it so tasty

Had reservations at the chef's counter and were sat in front of the grill. The grill master and everyone we interacted with were friendly and passionate about their work. The place has great energy, and the food was memorable. We celebrated ourselves, and each got a glass of rosé (all day). Got the softest, melt in tour mouth gnocchi we have ever sunk our teeth into as well as some walleye. The thing we remember most was the Michigan pork with the pineapple crema and adobo. It blew us away. We had the best time.

Been around quite a while and finally got there! The vegetables were exceptional as was the walleye. The carrot cake dessert was amazing. Service was excellent as expected, the staff was very attentive to a shellfish allergy in our party. (It might have been a little too much.) if you've never been, you must visit this gem!

Hands down some of the best food I've had in a long time! Came during a work trip and this place was recommended by a few people, plus my own research showed that it would be a place I would like. Upon arriving, we were warmly greeted by 2 hostesses. They informed us our table was getting set and would be seated shortly. It was a Tuesday night, and the place was still buzzing with energy and had a trendy ambiance. Our server, Kat, was incredibly kind, professional, and very attentive. She greeted our table of 4 right away, offered the specials and filled our waters. She recommended 8 dishes between the 4 of us, and it was indeed the perfect amount since the food is more of a tapas style/ shared plate dining. I was very happy about this because it would have been sad to not get to try all of the dishes! The dishes came out as they were ready, which was staggered. I appreciated this since it gave us time to enjoy every single dish, and the table was never over flowing with plates. We started with the sweet potato flatbread special and the Ricotta Gnocci. And OMG I savored every single bite. The plates were wiped clean as these were both phenomenal. The flavors, texture....everything! The gnocchi literally melts in your mouth. Next we got the Roasted cauliflower and Grilled Michigan Pork. Again...more amazing dishes both with so many complimentary flavors layered in every bite. The next dishes were the Pan Roasted Half Chicken and Smoked potatoes. I don't know what they did to that chicken but it was the best chicken I've ever had; the edges were crispy and the inside was juicy and flavorful. Then we got the Papparedelle pasta...this was so good we ordered another one because we also had one more guest show up. The last dinner dish we ordered was the Trout. Out of every dish this was probably my least favorite even though it was still delicious. I think it was more of a texture thing and the fact that it's a whole fish. Last but not least we had to get a dessert to round out the perfect dinner. We decided on the Chocolate Hazelnut Bar...and wow, was that the best way to end the night. Not overly heavy, but light, with different textures and flavors. Even though I wasn't a fan of how they laid out their wine menu (doesn't say the wine varietal, just says tasting notes) they had a good variety of speciality cocktails and wines. We tried the How Many Licks and Modern Medicine before switching to wine. I hope to visit Detroit again just so I can eat here! If it doesn't have one already it should at least get a Michelin mention, because this entire menu is 10/10.

Visited this restaurant back in December for my birthday dinner per recommendation from friends living in Detroit. Thankfully, we made a reservation ahead of time -- the restaurant was packed! Located a little outside of downtown, we Ubered there. We ordered the grilled whole trout, pappardelle, and a vegetable (I forgot which!) all the food was amazing and so were the drinks! Three dishes was the perfect amount of food for two people.

so as a local metro Detroiter I've been to Southern standard and it really lives up to the hype. It really lives up to. It's the food the service the ambience everything that has to do with Southern standard is really good. Anybody who's coming for the NFL draft wants a experience and like you know great food great times their brunch is off-the-wall. Their lunch is off-the-wall their dinners off the wall. Anything you get at SOUTHERN standing you want me disappointed I mean, the weight staff is amazing if you take the time to explore Detroit and you want something to remember, I would say yes this is fantastic.

Finally had a chance to visit Selden Standard. We had heard great things about this restaurant and made a reservation for a Saturday night. We walked to the restaurant from our apartment so I can't speak to the parking too much but it looked like there was street parking. We had to wait for our table to be ready when we first checked in but it seemed pretty busy and our table was near the kitchen so it was nice seeing where all the cooking was being done. Once we were seated we started off with the Vacation Friends and How Many Licks cocktails which were both rum based and we really enjoyed them. We started with bread and butter which you can ask for and then the oysters and beef tartare as our appetizers. Our waiter was also very good with sharing advice and explaining the menu to us. I really liked the beef tartare and the lettuce that it came with gave it a really good freshness to the dish. We had the pappardelle and the Michigan Grilled Pork as well and both of those were also delicious. Definitely a great spot for a dinner date and we will be back to try more of the menu!

Blue ribbon modern American cuisine. Knowledgeable staff, beautifully utilitarian interior with some flair, comfortable and surprisingly casual crowd, superbly curated menu. Best meal of 2023. Was in town for a Wings game with my dad. Decision was between Selden and Grey Ghost. Selden won out on the whim, maybe because of the website. The food: well, hell. The paradox here is that it's simple yet layered, complimentary (between ingredients and dishes) yet individually excellent. If the concept of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts needs an American culinary exhibit, a meal at Selden would be it. Had four dishes (as narrowed down by me and then selected by the staff) : the roasted cauliflower, the trout, the seafood (octopus and squid) fideau, and (the single best dish of 2023 to me) the miatake (sp?) mushrooms. The shrooms were our waitress' call, and good Lord, am I glad she rec'd them. I'm not a huge stand alone mushroom guy. But here, meaty/earthy/savory/crispy tastebud pleasure detonation? After each bite, and yes, this is hyperbolic (but you're still reading), it was like I was basking in the afterglow of culinary ecstasy. The fideau was fantastic. The octopus was buttery, the texture, crispy where it needed to be, meaty and luscious in the places it should. Thin, angel hair noodles were crisped which added a warm contrast to the dish; the saffron made it all that more luxurious. Trout had a pungent soy bite to it. Perfectly cooked, presentation was (cliche time!) simple yet refined. The pearl onions offered with it were delicate and spiced so that the soy taste got better as it lingered. The cauliflower was great as well, but trying to recall them after sitting here typing this in my phone for the past 4 minutes is a bit hard to put a fine point on. I just remember they were damned good as well. There's a lot to be said for Selden Standard. My dad worked in the restaurant business for 30ish years (upscale Cajun/creole/Southern and corporate fern bar in his younger years). We discussed the two things that stood out the most to him: 1)no place he could recall seasoned their dishes as well. He also said that 2) the staff was par excellence: immaculate timing between front and back of house, a staff that was in synch (though he didn't quite get the why behind rolling silverware near the front of the kitchen), the lack of uniforms (but the commonality of everyone wearing something black). We need more places like Selden Standard. It stands as a stark contrast to image mattering more than substance. Let the food do the talking, take care of the staff so the staff can take care of the customers, let a lack of pretension be the symptom of confidence, excellence, and experience. This modest (for what they could hold themselves out for) joint offered the best meal I had in 2023.

Sooo my boyfriend and I came here based on all of the ratings, we are new to the area. We got the Salt Cured Cod, Sweet Potato Agnolotti, Michigan Pork, Grilled Beet Salad, and Beef Tartare. My boyfriends fave: Sweet Potato Agnolotti My fave: Salt Cured Cod (soooooo good please get it) Overall we had a great experience. The cocktails were equally as good as the food. Also, the little things! Constantly refilled water, clearing of used utensils/plates, attentive service. This place was worth the hype and we will definitely be back!

Perfect flavors and textures, that on their own might represent a perfect dish, but when combined with other flavors and textures, via small sharable dishes you may only grab a bite of before it moves to the person across the table, Selden Standard shows your ingredients can combine in unexpected ways for a truly unique experience. From the sweet potato pasta and the moraine park farm rib eye served medium rare, to the heavily saffron-scented Seafood Fideuà and the roasted mushrooms with chimichurri, it all just dances around the palette wonderfully. The only critique I had beyond the tragicly dim lighting, was the entire small plate premise. I am not sure I would quite enjoy the experience Selden Standard is offering if I were to come on a date, or even sitting at the bar solo. The success of the menu is the sharing, so next time I will return with another large group. It's an excellent option for dining out with friends and colleagues.
